TYPO3

What is TYPO3?

TYPO3 is a free and open-source web content management system (CMS) written in PHP and released under the GNU General Public License. It can run on several web servers, such as Apache or IIS, on top of many operating systems, among them Linux, Microsoft Windows, FreeBSD, macOS and OS/2.

TYPO3 Universe offers highly flexible, scaleable and customizable products for Web Content Management, providing the basis for websites, intranets, and web & mobile apps worldwide - always with a focus on the current needs of businesses and public institutions.

Along with Drupal, Joomla! and WordPress, TYPO3 is one of the most popular CMSs worldwide, but it is more widespread in Europe than in other regions. The biggest market share for TYPO3 is in German-speaking countries.

TYPO3 is a flexible CMS and new functions can extend it without writing any program code. This software is available in more than 50 languages and has a built-in localization system, supporting the publishing of content in many languages. Thanks to its features, scalability, and maturity, TYPO3 is used to manage and build websites of all types and sizes, from small to big, or multilingual enterprise solutions for large corporations.

TYPO3 has two main parts: the frontend (visible to visitors) and the administrative backend (where the programmer works his magic). The frontend displays the web content and the backend is responsible for administration and managing content.

TYPO3 main features:

  • Automatic caching
  • Granular permissions control
  • Search function for static and dynamic content
  • Search-engine friendly URLs
  • Automatic sitemap
  • Multi-site management
  • Multilingual

If you need to manage and output content TYPO3 is for you. More than just a CMS, TYPO3 inspires people to share data.
